My vision for America is a nation that embraces 21st century socialism while staying true to its core values and principles, with the Bill of Rights serving as the foundation of our society. Under this system, we would adopt a more direct democracy, where the working class is represented by a political party that governs the country rather than a select group of oligarchic parasites.
In this model, the people will vote on policies, and the political party will enact them into law, provided they don't violate our constitutionally-protected rights such as free speech, privacy, and gun ownership. To ensure a fair distribution of wealth and opportunity, most major industries such as oil, energy, pharma, and mining companies would be nationalized. Meanwhile, at least half of medium-sized businesses would operate as co-ops, where workers have a say in what the company produces and how profits are used. Every worker would either have shares in the company or be a partner owner and operator, with a reasonable degree of income inequality.
Small businesses would continue to operate as they do now, but with the added support of government initiatives that make it easier for entrepreneurs to start their own ventures. To further reduce wealth inequality, we would establish wealth funds and introduce a Universal Basic Dividend (UBD). This differs from a Universal Basic Income (UBI), which relies on taxes to fund payments to the unemployed and can cause resentment, division, and strife, as the working class pays for those who are unemployed. Instead, UBD would distribute dividends from the collective ownership of our country's resources to every citizen through non-tradeable shares.
In addition to this, we will implement policies that address the basic needs of all citizens, regardless of income or work status. Housing4All would provide everyone with housing, while Med4all aims to implement a single payer healthcare system that is free at the point of service. Those below a certain income level would automatically receive SNAP benefits for food, with a monthly amount of approximately $250, and parents who both work would have access to free childcare.
Furthermore, my proposal also includes the legalization of all drugs, including opiates, cocaine, methamphetamine, MDMA, LSD, and mushrooms. Pharmacies would be responsible for dispensing these drugs, with limitations in place to prevent abuse, and individuals would not require a prescription from a doctor to obtain them. The proposed configuration aims to allow for recreational use while curbing potential abuse, and individuals would be limited to a certain amount per month; We already do this with Pseudoephedrine.
All these policies may sound like pie in the sky, but they are not. Every proposal I've made already exists in the US. We already have Medicare, Social Security, SNAP benefits. Alaska already has a social wealth fund that pays out dividends like a UBD based on a collective ownership of resources to all of its residents. We already have co-ops and had nationalized industries before. We also have direct democracy when we vote on ballot initiatives.
All I'm proposing is to expand all of this and make it universal. To achieve this, we need a socialist party that represents the will of the working class.
